Expressive arts therapy supervision is a relational and arts-based dialogue to support a reflective, cooperative facilitation process to provide ethical and professional guidance with the goals of developing and strengthening sound expressive arts therapy practices.

We will, over 4 months, explore the foundational practices of using the expressive arts in therapy, singular arts compared to intermodal, or superimposition using the arts, in and as therapy, explore the architecture of a session, transference and countertransference issues, ethical dilemmas, case studies, and most importantly, questions that you have both individually and as a group. How do we bring the arts online, and issues stemming from our work and lives will also be explored.

Using the arts as a point of inquiry, we will use the arts as well as dialogue to explore our questions and aesthetic responses to the material.

While supervision is not therapy, we will be exploring how our personal selves enter the work. It is encouraged for you to have outside support if needed.

As expressive arts-based psychotherapists, we engage with clients in non-traditional ways, helping clients to step out of their chairs and into a less defined zone of co-creative and collaborative action. In this action space, we find creative opportunities for powerful healing, recovery, and transformation.

In this daylong, in-person supervisory retreat, we will explore ways to creatively assess using sociometry and creative models of assessment, using Playback Theatre in clinical practices as well as have time for participants to bring client concerns and use the expressive arts to explore dynamics, and transferences with the goal of developing the next steps for your practice.

ASGPP Diversity Award for 2023

This past weekend Michael Watson and I went to the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama annual conference at Fordham University. It was a good conference. We were honored to receive the ASGPP Diversity Award for 2023…

“The Diversity Award is presented annually, when an appropriate candidate exists, to an ASGPP member who has demonstrated outstanding creativity, commitment, and achievement in developing environments of diversity and inclusion.”

Michael and I feel quite humbled and honored at receiving this award from the ASGPP community.

The Sociatry and Social Justice Committee also won the Council award. We also created the 2023 Diversity Forum which was quite powerful confirming and affirming. I am grateful that we as a team (Michael and I, Deb Karner, Aimee Johnson, Sheila Katzman, Ed Schreiber, Anne Lukens, and Daisy Martinez Dicarlo) have supported change, and that support is being recognized…

“The ASGPP Executive Council’s Award is presented to groups/organizations making notable contributions to ASGPP and/or distinguished work in promoting psychodrama, sociometry, and group psychotherapy”

The work is ongoing and needs to continue. As a community, we continue to support our work together.

devoted to enhancing our creativity and play as we form a community of storytellers in action. Using Playback Theatre as the core, participants will learn how to use applied theatre to transform personal stories told by workshop participants into spontaneous theatre pieces using movement, ritual, music, and spoken improvisation.

Participants will share their stories and learn to bring these stories to life and learn the applications and settings for Playback Theatre.

Stories are how we understand our world, who we are, where we have come from, and what we may have come through. These moments of our lives can be touchstones, full of power and significance. They are the glue that holds families, communities, and cultures together. In the last 3 years, we have been tested by the pandemic and political strife. This is a time of sharing and coming together to play, engage and share our stories. Using this form of theatre develops intuition, insight, creativity, empathy, and effective communication skills and is used in many settings. This workshop is recommended for adults 16 and over: no theatre experience is needed. Please wear loose clothing.

Listening Hours-Schedule

At the beginning of the pandemic, Jonathan Fox, developed a project for a way for people to share stories through a virtual platform and connect those who may be stuck at home. It is called the Listening Hour. It is a way for us to share our personal stories in a nonjudgmental way. The experience is designed to be enjoyable and give us some positive energy for our day by simply sharing our stories. While we are no longer in a lockdown, the Listening Hours are still a rich way of experiencing the world.

Listening Hour are held online monthly. By design, there are never more than 5-6 people in a session. Also by design, the sessions are only about an hour long- to 75 minutes. They are free and donations are gratefully accepted.

If you would like to participate, please email me. If yes, I will send you the log in details. There are two different groups each month. They are fun, and thoughtful. We would meet on a Zoom Platform.

Expressive Arts Therapy Supervision

Facilitated by Jennie Kristel, MA, REAT, APTT

Meetings will be via Zoom platform 5 Month online group (meeting 2 times per month).

This will be 20 hours of supervision. This supervision group will meet monthly via Zoom for therapists who are interested in pursuing the REAT credential through the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) and are looking to gain group hours toward this. I work as a supervisor in a relational and arts-based dialogue to support a reflective, cooperative facilitation process that provides ethical and professional guidance with the goals of developing and strengthening sound expressive arts therapy practices.

We will, over 5 months, explore the foundational practices of using the expressive arts in therapy, singular arts compared to intermodal, or superimposition using the arts, in and as therapy, explore the architecture of a session, transference and countertransference issues, ethical dilemmas, case studies, and most importantly, questions that you have both individually and as a group. How do we bring the arts online, and issues stemming from our work and lives during the pandemic will also be explored. Using the arts as a point of inquiry, we will use the arts as well as dialogue to explore our questions and aesthetic responses to the material. While supervision is not therapy, we will be exploring how our personal selves enter the work. It is encouraged for you to have outside support if needed.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (Ray ki) is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force. An ancient tool, Reiki derives from the work of Japanese teacher, Mikao Usui.

Having a Reiki treatment requires no specific setting or preparation, so Reiki can be utilized in many different settings, including hospitals, hospices, emergency rooms, and other patient settings. Reiki can be used to support a person through emotional, physical and spiritual crises, or as a preventative tool to maintain good health and ease everyday stress.

Reiki is a gentle yet powerful tool for change in self and the planet. Anyone can benefit from Reiki treatments.

Honoring the Stories We live

At JourneyWorks we recognize that stories are central to life and that the stories we are told, and those we tell ourselves and others, shape our understanding of the lives we lead.

We know that many of our stories are sacred and must be honored and approached with reverence. Such stories guide us as we live our lives. These stories nurture us, aid us as we seek to make sense of our life path, offer hope and solace, and support us in developing relationship with that which is larger than ourselves.

We will work with you as you explore the stories that shape and enrich you, and support you as you seek to find the stories that can guide you to your preferred way of living.

Deep healing happens with the support of community. We encourage community by offering classes, workshops, and groups in the Expressive Arts Therapies, the Arts, Reiki, and Shamanic Healing. We acknowledge the turning of the year, and our relationship to the Earth, by offering seasonal ceremony. On occasion we work with community partners to create opportunities for the community to meet visiting artists and healers, or to address community concerns.
